About the Author
Beijing Dance Academy
founded in 1954, is renowned as the “Cradle of Dancers.”

The academy comprises more than ten departments, including Chinese Classical Dance, Ethnic and Folk Dance, and Ballet, forming a systematic dance education framework. Guided by the motto “Integrating Culture and Dance, Cultivating Virtue and Artistry,” it has nurtured numerous dance artists and promoted the Chinese Dance Graded Examination worldwide, training over 50,000 teachers annually.


Sun Guangyan
a distinguished Chinese dance educator and professor at Beijing Dance Academy, was among the first generation of classical dance teachers in New China and contributed to the establishment of the Chinese classical dance training system.

From 1985, she led the compilation of the Chinese Dance Graded Examination Curriculum and founded the Chinese dance grading system. Her textbooks were designated by the Ministry of Culture as the national standard for dance examinations, covering 13 grades and benefiting millions of learners globally.
